There are two gentle, wide cascades across the road from Adventure Lodge, on Nipissing Rd, just a few minutes north of Whitney. The total drop in river elevation is 3m. The lower rapids are visible from the rail trail, just past the Adventure Lodge complex. It is a wider, lower gradient rapids with a bit of bedrock poking through.
The upper cascade is hidden behind a rocky hill. From the railtrail, just past the lodge, an open rocky area follows along the shore of the river. It bends around to the right and pops out beside the upper cascade. This cascade is still in the open, but is narrower than the lower rapids, and with more exposed bedrock. This is the falls shown in the photo.
The lower rapids are easily viewed from the rail trail. It is my understanding that the rocky, semi-treed area that has to be crossed to get to the upper cascade is on crown land. I don't know this for certain, however, I am seeking confirmation. The hike is only 3 mins from the rail trail. Remember, this site does not give you permission to trespass.
