The cascade at the Babcock Mill is quite possibly the smallest waterfall included in the Waterfalls of Ontario! The creek falls over a limestone step that is no more than 0.5 m high. But still, this is an attractive site.
Only a hardcore waterfaller would even consider this a falls. But since t is situated right next to the historic stone basket mill, it can make a great photo. It is also easily accessible and a nice place for a short stroll across the grounds.
You can see the flat lying limestone riverbed just upstream of the mill. Do you think that this small falls provided enough power for the mill? Probably not. It is likely that a headpond would have been located further upstream.
I haven't researeched the history of every site in this collection. That would make this a full time job! But visitors with an interest in local history often find that waterfalls and water power were often the impetus for the development of towns and villages in Ontario's early settler history.
