Located in the heart of Bracebridge, this is a great urban waterfall. A water level control dam, power station, two bridges and urban development clutter the view. But this is still well worth visiting, and is a strong reminder of the importance of waterfalls to society. Parkland surrounds the falls on both sides of the river, and the view from the Silver Bridge is impressive.
Water levels at this waterfall can drop dramatically during summer, when much of the river's flow is diverted to the hydroelectric plant. This building is housed in a fine stone building beside the falls. In spring, summer and fall, you can access a safe catwalk over the dam to take in the whole scene.
This waterfall is featured in the 'Waterfalls of Ontario' book. Please pick up a copy to learn more. This helps to support this project.
