Charlton is a pleasant little community on the Englehart River. After passing a park and boat launch the river flows under Bay St via three main channels. Each channel starts at a small sinuous bay in the river, around which several homes and a pleasant park are situated.
The channels each pass through a water control dam, and carry the river's flow to a wider section downstream. The dams are in place to maintain head for a hydroelectric generation station. The easternmost channel is the largest and flows over a long narrow cascade.
Provincial mapping shows that all of the channels are on the same property as the hydroelectric station. I did not see any signs prohibiting access to these lands, and I have seen images of people fishing and exploring the rocks at the base of the eastern-most falls. Thus, with care, it may be possible to explore the falls legally. Of course, there are always risks around dams and spillways.
Any person that chooses to explore the area does so at their own risk. This website is not guiding you to explore lands beyond the road. If you live in the area and can help to make this description more accurate and realistic, please let me know!
