Conniston Falls are comprised of two major drops. The first set falls through a narrow notch in the bedrock, starting right under the bridge. About 30 m downstream is larger, wider falls, still not spectacular, but attractive nonetheless. The bedrock is believed to be quartzite belonging to the Mississagi formation.
NOTE: The lands (and roads) around this site are privately owned by industry, but the area immediately around the creek is crown land. I understand that road access is tolerated by industry, as a way of allowing for recreation at the river. A publicly accessible portage leads from a parking area towards the falls. It is common to see people fishing just downstream on the Wahnapitae River.
This waterfall is featured in the 'Waterfalls of Ontario' book. Please pick up a copy to learn more. This helps to support this project. NOTE: There are no safety railings at this waterfall. The uppermost part of the falls, near the bridge poses a particular risk, and visitors must stay back. Anyone that chooses to visit does so at their own risk.
