About Dog Falls

This is a beautiful spot! When the Kaministiquia River is flowing well, the waterfall is a highlight of the Thunder Bay area. When flows are low, the falls aren't as spectacular but the hike is still well worth your time. Some people get confused about the naming... this is Dog Falls *IN* Silver Falls Provincial Park. Silver Falls is associated with the hydroelectric dam downstream, and is difficult to visit. The trail to Dog Falls is about 1.5 km long, going north and west to the water surge tower, and then northwest to the river. This area is fairly remote and I don't think that it has cell service. But the trail is well known among hikers in Thunder Bay. Another High Falls is located further upstream, and I haven't yet gone all the way to visit it. The river falls about 33 m in total at Dog Falls. From the top of High Falls to the bottom of Silver Falls, the total drop is about 100 m.
