I used to list this as Buttermilk Falls, but that was incorrect. The real Buttermilk Falls is found on a tributary that flows into the Salmon River a few kilometers downstream. It is surrounded by private property and cannot be visited. Forest Mills Falls, however, can be seen from the road, though there is private property in the immediate vicinity.
The lower portion of the falls is all natural, but the upper third is comprised of a water control dam, likely left over from a former mill that may have occupied this site. I have yet to research site history, but if you have something to share, please let me know.
It is my belief that the falls can be visited without trespassing. The falls and its river are right next to the road. This means that Crown waters and the road allowance merge, giving a bit of space to wander around, but not much. The bridge is private, however, as is the land on the far side of the river. This is an attractive site.
Please don't trespass and please heed any signs that may be posted. At minimum, you can view the falls from the roadside.
