This small rapids is no more than 1 m high, but stretches right across the Rideau River. The rapids cut like a straight line right across the river, although they do so at an angle that doesn't seem to have anything to do with the direction of the river. They occur where the edges of inclined sedimentary rock layers break the river surface.
This site can be reached by trails that lead about 400 m downstream from the Hogs Back park. The inclined nature of the bedrock layers is essentially an extension of what we can see at the Hogs Back falls. This phenomenon is rare in southern Ontario; most sedimentary rock is nearly flat.
