About this Project

For 25 years, the Waterfalls of Ontario project has helped thousands of people to discover Ontario’s waterfalls. In return, they have contributed photos, updates and new locations. This is a grassroots community effort!

Some people coach soccer or hockey... this hobby project is my contribution to society. I've heard from hundreds of people that have caught the 'waterfalling bug' after discovering this project.

This hobby website has been online since 1999. You are currently exploring the 8th edition, uploaded in spring, 2024. You can read a lot more about the history of this project.

‘Waterfalls of Ontario’ is also a book, written by myself and illustrated by George Fischer. The fourth edition of the book was again published by Firefly Books, and is available online and in stores. Learn more...

In addition, a 40,000-strong Facebook group community has been growing since 2012. Our friendly, well-moderated group is laser-focused on Ontario’s waterfalls. Please join us...

First Nations

This project acknowledges that the land now called Ontario is the traditional territory of the First Nations peoples. It recognizes and respects the enduring stewardship and contributions of First Nations to the land that we all call home.

In the spirit of reconciliation, you are encouraged to understand and build positive relationships with the Indigenous peoples whose ancestral lands we are privileged to share.

I am especially interested in hearing from Indigenous visitors to this website. Can you share traditional names or stories of the places listed on this website? Let's tell the real story so others will know.

Statement of Values and Ethics

Treating the environment and nearby communities with respect is critical to keeping our waterfalls open and enjoyable for everyone.

The Waterfalls of Ontario project aims to be a responsible resource for the promotion of waterfall discovery. It promotes safe activities, respect for property access laws and encourages a responsible approach to exploration.

Duchesnay Creek Falls in North Bay is amazing! The falls just keep going and going.

Acknowledgements

For the past 25 years, many hundreds of people have contributed to this website. Some pointed out an error or suggested an improvement. Others contributed a photo or two. Collectively, this community of visitors has made the site into what it is today.

Other people have gone above and beyond, volunteering their time and effort to take this website to the next level. It is impossible for me to individually thank everyone, and an omission from this list doesn’t mean that their contribution isn’t valued.

The acknowledgements section has got so long, that it now gets its own page! Coming soon...
