This is the first of a number of small rapids and cascades along the Maple Leaf Creek. The river drops almost 100 m in elevation between here and the last (?) falls at the small picnic area off Boulter Rd. This one is a small rapids of little interest, and unfortunately, with limited access. Named for the short road leading off the highway, just 1 km north of Maynooth.
The Hastings Heritage Trail runs right beside several sets of cascades. The road gives access to the smallest rapids, but the larger set is on signed private property. I was being watched when I visited, and stuck to the Trail. This limited what I was able to see of the slightly larger rapids downstream.
This site is coded yellow because there is private property in the immediate area. The first, uppermost rapids are visible from the road and trail, but the larger lower rapids are not. There are private property signs in many places. This site is included for general information purposes only.
