But what you can see is a broad expanse of bare, dark fractured bedrock. It starts at the bridge and extends downstream for about 100 m. I suspect that this would be a dramatic whitewater scene during spring freshet.
Unfortunately, the land around the falls on all sides is privately owned. I noted a higher-than-usual frequency of 'No Trespassing' signs on the road to Glanmire. I'm not sure if this means that there have been issues in the past.
In any event, the view from the bridge is panoramic and probably quite something to see during high flows. When flows are low, which they often area, there isn't much waterfalling to be had. I do like the view over the bridge. It's worth checking out if you are on a lazy afternoon drive. Just don't expect much waterfall exploration.
Found under the bridge for Old Hastings Rd in the small, dispersed settlement of Glanmire. The drive in from the north is longer, scenic, but very isolated. You really do get the feeling that you are in the middle of nowhere.
