This is a long cascade that can rage pretty hard at times. A water level control dam at the top of the falls holds back Mattagami Lake. This long, linear lake stretches 50 km to the south, likely created by raising and maintaining the water level in the original river valley. Even though it is 150 m in the distance, the falls is easily viewd from the bridge over the river.
I've seen people fishing in the river on the other side of the bridge, meaning that there is a way to get to river level. I haven't attempted it, and don't have information on how to descend safely. As always, stay back from dams, as they have proven to be deadly in Ontario.
A short driveway on the west side of the bridge leads to the dam, but I'm not sure if provides access or not. Do you know more about this site? Can you help this entry?
