This is a tall, nearly vertical waterfall in the Palisades area, just north of Nipigon. The Mazukama Falls Hiking Trail winds it's way up a steep hill and passes a number of smaller waterfalls along the way. A good workout, but the payoff is worth it.

Mishomis Falls is the largest of the smaller ones and is also featured on this page. Once you pass Mishomis Falls the trail becomes very, very steep on the way to Mazukama.

I have yet to visit the falls but despite the tough trail (or perhaps because of it), it is a clearly a 'hidden gem' that is well-liked by members of our Facebook Group. Be warned, even though this is a popular, tall waterfall, it has a very small watershed and can be expected to dry up through much of the summer and early fall.

This waterfall is coded yellow because the trail to reach the falls is very difficult. It includes a very significant elevation climb of several hundred metres. The falls aren't even located at the top. If you still have gas in your tank, continue to the top for a spectaular view.

There are a number of small creeks that fall over the Palisades hill. Their setting is the same as for Mazukama, but they are further from the road and may not have hiking trails. If any of them tumble over cliffs like this one, then they would form a falls too. I suspect that we will find more in this area in the years to come.
