This waterfall is also referred to as 'South Falls'. I believe that this is actually this historcal name, and was used to distinguish it from the falls on the north branch of the Muskoka River. However, when I first started cataloguing falls in the late 1990s, I saw that this was in the community of Muskoka Falls, and used that name.
This is quite a sizeable waterfall but is largely hidden under the double bridges associated with Highway 11. You are also forbidden from wandering too far under bridge.
A large water control dam is found at the top of the falls, and a large-diameter penstock can be examined across the way. Sadly, this falls has been boxed in, big time! But it's still worth a stop, because the gorge is impressive. Visitors can see the waterfall simply by taking a look from the Morrow Drive bridge. Try to imagine how this would have looked before development.
