I used to call this site 'Observatory Rapids', but switched it out when I saw the name on mapsbyjeff.com Jeff knows the park WAYYYY better than I do! This cluster of rapids is just upstream from where the river discharges to Lake Traverse. I haven't visited, but suspect that exploration on foot is possible. Jeff's map indicates that there is a small waterfall here.
There are several sizeable islands in the river, which causes the river to split into several larger channels, and possibly several more small ones. The second largest island is crossed by Achray Rd, meaning there are at least two channels crossed by the road.
Additional channels are found upstream, probalby just out of view. All have rapids. It's impossible to use aerial photography to tell exactly what is available to see. If you visit, please lett me know what we can find.
I used to use the term Observatory Rapids because otf the Algonquin Radio Observatory, located just 500 m to the south. The driving coordinates lead to a parking lot at the western edge of Lake Traverse, not far from the rapids.
This site is coded yellow because I have never visited and cannot confirm that it is easy to visit the rapids. While they are fairly close to the road, conditions may or may not be suitable for access by ground.
