There are a number of small waterfalls and rapids along Quintet Creek. None are very big, but could combine into a fun afternoon outing for someone comfortable on the backroads of Algoma. The roads along this route are active logging roads. I've been advised that a small SUV will be able to make this trip.

There are three sites that could be visited. The driving directions lead to the middle site because it is the easiest to find. It is located under a high voltage transmission corridor, and is only 20 m from the road. To be clear, the road crosses the corridor multiple times. A second site is 500 m north, where the road crosses the transmission lines again. I have not seen any photos of this site.

The best site is probably the hardest to reach. I provide the coordinates 47.0784, -84.2537 as only a possible parking location. This is where the road is closest to the creek. Several rapids and small falls are found along the creek, starting about 60 m to the east, but then including the stream reach extending 200 m upstream.

To get an idea of what these falls look like, find them in google maps and turn on the images layer (the little arrow on the bottom right of a desktop browser). Billy Wilson explored many of these creeks years ago and planted a number of waterfall image on google. Many are rapids, but some are bonafide waterfalls of 2-star quality. There could be some gems for someone willing and able to explore this area.

NOTE: This site is coded yellow because it requires visitors to have the right vehicle and experience to manage secondary bush roads. There is active logging in the area, and drivers may encounter large trucks coming at speed. Washouts are possible, there are no signs, and cell phone service drops soon after leaving Hwy 17. The area is at least 45 minutes from Hwy 17.

Waterfalls of Ontario Project

This project has been online since 1999, in print since 2003, and on social since 2011. (See archives: 2003, 2012, 2018). It was the first to inventory and map Ontario's waterfalls for recreational purposes. With your continued help, it grows. Learn more...
