This gorgeous little falls is located right beside John Watson Road, and visitors can sneak a top-down peek from a spot just a few steps from the car. Downstream of the falls, the ceek has carved a narrow tree-lined gorge into the marble bedrock.

A trail to the left leads down to the base of the gorge. A small falls sits right at the base, but then the largest falls is set back within a tight and somewhat risky gorge. This is visible from river level. I don't know if there is any other place like this in Ontario's waterfall roster. It is possibly the narrowest gorge cut into precambrian rock, which is normally much more resistant to erosion.

Beside the gorge, there is another smaller gorge to the left, with very little flow. I suspect that the creek once drained through this slot but that it has been left high and dry by some chaneg upstream.

The falls at Rockingham are located on private property. We currently have the priviledge of enjoying them due to the generosity of the landowner. (see signage). You must use caution, but also be courteous. Don't leave any garbage behind.

Waterfalls of Ontario Project

This project has been online since 1999, in print since 2003, and on social since 2011. (See archives: 2003, 2012, 2018). It was the first to inventory and map Ontario's waterfalls for recreational purposes. With your continued help, it grows. Learn more...
