Of the three rapids at Whitney, this one was my favourite. It is right beside the road and easy to access. I suspect that the flow drops significantly during summer. But when I visited, it was a bonafide cascade, and not just a gentle rapids.
The river constricts significantly and steams through a narrow rock channel before once again opening into a wide, shallower boulder garden. The river falls maybe 2 metres. Several large rock knobs on the south side offer great vantage points.
Parking is on the roadside. The road is not busy, and I don't think that any cars drove by during my 15 minute visit. But there is a blind corner, so as always, use caution when parking along the road.
