Several small cascades are found between the parking area for High Falls on Barron and the Falls itself. I've not visited any of them, but they are clearly visible on aerial photography. Well, that depends. If you use the current imagery shown on Google Maps, you won't see much. But Ontario's 'Make a Topographic Map' has much more detailed imagery.
The coordinates included here point to the site referred to as 'The Cascades' on Google Maps. Other mapping, such as mapsbyjeff.com uses this name for the same location. The location is about 400 m east of the High Falls Trail. I am not sure if there is a side trail leading to the river, but would be surprised if there isn't.
Even without a trail, it should be possible to paddle upstream from the Brigham Lake Parking area. The first cascade is less than 1 km from the put in spot. This just beyond the upstream end of a small pond.
A second cascade is found another 600-700 m upstream. A third cascade is 300 m further upstream, and another is 300 m further upstream near the outlet of High Falls Lake. None of these cascades are very high, but they are bonafide bedrock cascades, not just rapids. I plan to visit this site some day and catalogue each one. Will you beat me to it? (and if so, share some photos and tips here for everyone else?).
