At this site, the river is more than 50 m wide. It encounters a barrier of exposed bedrock that stretches right across the river. At most times, however, much of this rock barrier is dry, and the river instead picks its way through two diffferent channels on either side of the big rock in the middle. Each forms a cascade of about 3-4 m in height. The southern channel has a near vertical drop, while the northern channel is choked with boulders.
There is no land access to this small chute, although website user Peter Patel-Schneider observed ATVs parked at a smaller rapids downstream.
It may be possible to canoe or kayak to here from Minors Bay Marina. I haven't done this. The total paddle would be about 4 km. There is a dam part way along that paddlers would have to portage around. The driving directions lead ot the marina for convencience, for those that may wish to try this route. Please contact the marina to get information about leaving your car.
