This is a very picturesque area with a small falls and several rapids. The Black River flows under a one-lane iron bridge, and then immediately flows over a small rapids.
Further downstream, the river runs through a narrow trough-like notch in the bedrock. Even though the falls are quite small, people that like this spot, really like it a lot. This is quintessential southern Canadian Shield landscape.
The road to the falls is very scenic, but can also be rough. At times, it reduces to a single lane, and is bumpy with lots of puddles following wet weather. It is fixed up occasionally, but could be unnerving for some people. This is why the falls is coded yellow. SUVs and trucks are best, though to be fair, people with front-wheel drive cars have arrived safely for years.
Black River Rd starts out as Muskoka Rd 6, but becomes a local road once Muskoka Route 6 crosses the river and becomes known as Chisholm Trail. From this point, the drive is about 25-30 mins each way. Note that this is a dead-end road.
