As far as size and interest, this waterfall is on par with it's upstream brother, Goulais River Falls. Unlike that other falls, it is difficult to reach the river bed at this site, and thus very hard to get a head-on view of the falls from downstream. Nevertheless, great views of the falls are available from high up on a rocky outcrop. The view downstream is equally rewarding.
This is a wild scene, especially in spring, as the river rampages over a rugged rock exposure. Downstream, the river calms down a bit, flowing off into a backdrop of Algoma's ubiquitous high rounded hills.
The driving directions lead to a dirt road that leads south from Whitman Dam Rd. This is a primiative forest road and some people choose to park here. The road continues south for about 600 m into the woods to an intersection with trails at about 46.8099, -83.9933. Some people park their vehicles here (I was able to park here in a small SUV).
John Bruce Leigh showed me a trail to the left that leads downhill for about 400 m to the river. After a bend to the right, the trail eventually leads to a rocky lookout over the falls. As usual, anyone that chooses to visit a site like this does so at their own risk.
