Slide waterfalls occur where the river 'slides' over a smooth inclined layer of bedrock. The rock may be tilted downstream, or, may have been eroded this way.
This type of waterfall is only found in northern Ontario; rock layers in southern Ontario are almost always flat.
Bedrock under a slide waterfall is usually devoid of any major fractures. This allows the water to rush or "slide" quickly across the unbroken surface.
